Prerequisites

Operating System

Windows 10 / 11

Hardware

ENET Cable (F/G/I) or K+DCAN (E)

1 Install BMW Standard Tools

Before running LumaBMW, you must install the BMW EDIABAS engine required to communicate with your car.

Show Step-by-Step Installation Guide

1. Run st212.exe using all default settings except the 4 checkbox options in the "select additional task" window regarding "backup and restore" and "create desktop/quick launch icons".
(If using Windows 10, run st212.exe in "Compatibility Mode" for Windows 7)

2. After install completes, select "No" to restarting PC.

3. Navigate to your C:\ drive and delete the folders labeled: EC-APPS, EDIABAS, & NCSEXPER.

4. Replace those folders with the EC-APPS, EDIABAS, & NCSEXPER from this download by copying them to the C:\ drive.

5. Copy the 3 files inside the OCX folder and paste them in the C:\Windows\Syswow64 folder.
If you do not have this folder, you have a 32-bit system meaning you need to paste them in C:\Windows\system32 instead.

6. Open Command Prompt as administrator & enter the following commands.
Please note if you are on a 32-bit system, start on the 2nd line. Press Enter after each command:

cd c:\windows\syswow64
regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx # Wait for "Registration Succeeded"
regsvr32 msflxgrd.ocx # Wait for "Registration Succeeded"
regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx # Wait for "Registration Succeeded"

7. Place the "BMW Tools" folder (BMW icon) on your desktop. Shortcuts to all the software are inside.

8. Make sure your cable is set to COM-1 with a Latency Timer as 1 in Windows Device Manager.

9. Reboot Computer.

10. Installation is complete!

2 Configure Network Interface

Open the EDIABAS configuration file located at:

C:\EDIABAS\Bin\ediabas.ini

For ENET Cables (F/G Series)

Find Interface = and change it to:

Interface = ENET

Also, ensure your Windows Ethernet IPv4 is set to:
IP: 169.254.250.250
Subnet: 255.255.0.0

For K+DCAN Cables (E Series)

Find Interface = and change it to:

Interface = STD:OBD

4 Running the Show

Connect your OBD cable to the car and PC.

Turn the vehicle ignition ON.

Open lumabmw.exe.

Select your ECU (e.g., FEM_20) from the dropdown.

Click a sequence pack to begin the show!

Troubleshooting

Could not connect to EDIABAS
  • BMW Standard Tools is not installed.
  • EDIABAS is configured incorrectly in ediabas.ini.
  • Your OBD cable is disconnected.
  • Another program (like ISTA or INPA) is currently holding the EDIABAS port open. Close them.
App says "ECU Not Found"
Verify that the folder C:\EDIABAS\Ecu\ contains the required PRG file for your vehicle (e.g., FEM_20.prg).
Nothing happens when I click a sequence
Ensure the ignition is ON. Open Tool32 (included in BMW tools) and see if you can communicate with your ECU manually. If Tool32 cannot talk to the car, LumaBMW cannot either.
